April is National Poetry Writing Month. Every day from April 1st to April 30th poets write a new piece. There are sites that provide prompts, but I think I prefer to start freely.
I know me. I write daily anyway and don’t think this will be much of a challenge. And yet… somehow, these last couple of times, I was never able to see a challenge through. Life got in the way or I got in my own way or whatever excuse I refuse to use. Anyway I will try to do better. And this year, I will take part in #NaPoWriMo. Seriously. All my poems will be crossposted on Threads.
*****
Day 1
You say that I am your light
That I keep you grounded in the dark
But you are made of shadows
Hidden behind clouds
That nobody sees.
Your name is a secret on my tongue
Rivers on my cheeks at dawn
I am a ghost. Nothing.
An after midnight thought
Buried in forgotten dreams.

The light is seen in the dark, the dark is seen in the light, Shadows of meanings are cloudy and the dreams of the day and night merge where meanings haunt like ghosts with howling winds gone calm in the doldrums where sailboats are dead in the water. I don’t know, I’ve forgotten my metaphors and left them at home.

I don’t know what to make of this but thank you for reading and taking the time to remember your metaphors.
