Dry the River – satellite mind

This is a cover from a band called Metric. This song was recorded and released for a project called “Good People Rock”. It was a compilation of cover songs and funded through a crowdfunding campaign, on Pledge Music, I believe.

Here is the original:

David Bowie – starman

From the album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” (1972, RCA Records)

I woke up this morning with this song in my head and ever since I am humming it. When I was looking for the video just now, I kept singing along and, I took a liking to that blue guitar, beautiful instrument. I read a bunch of books about David Bowie, saw his movies, listen to his music quite often and one of my favourite mugs is a David Bowie mug too. I wouldn’t call myself a super fan, but he is definitely on my to-go-to list when I am not sure which music suits my moods. Coincidentally, my son Ollie who is fifteen years old was born on the same date as David. (January 8th).

My mood was not the best these days, I am not too sure why. Maybe it really is just the fact that I am never on my own. Yesterday, I was in a bit of a cocoon. I put my headphones on and turned the volume of the music up, then I read. I was not there for a whole while and it felt so so good.

A couple of days ago, I shared a French song by a band called Indochine. I am reading a book about them, written by their brother. Indochine were mainly Nicolas and Stéphane Sirkis, twins, and Dominique who was their drummer but also wrote songs. Stéphane passed away. Drugs and alcohol paved his journey. The brother who wrote the book, Christophe Sirchis (not a spelling mistake, the twins changed their names for it to be easier pronounceable) blames Nicolas for the death of his twin. I am not sure yet, if there is truth in the story or not, but for now, I am reading this book in its French version and it is easier than I thought it would be. I don’t read a lot of French these days.

so… anyway, I was not very social yesterday. I am still lonely, and I miss being hugged or kissed.

Oh well… Have a great Thursday,

Cathy

Mogwai – take me somewhere nice

From the album “Rock Action” (2001, Toy’s Factory)

Today, I will dream myself away to a place where the wind feels windier; the sun on my skin feels warmer; the hug that never happened feels like a bigger loss. There is a place, somewhere nice, to feel all the things we didn’t allow ourselves to feel—a place where we can be in love. There must be a place where all this longing is not in vain, and your skin against mine is not a dream. An embracing ghost that is near but never quite there… I need a second to breathe. What are we gonna do?

The Twilight Sad – I became a Prostitute

From the album “Forget the Night Ahead” (2009, FatCat records)

It took me a while to get into the music from the Scottish band. As someone who likes to understand the lyrics of a song, this was difficult. The Scottish accent is very pronounced, but it also adds to the music.

I am a bit down today. My shoulder hurts, my doctors aren’t available and the only thing I can do is rest. But I see all these things that need to be done, it’s hard for me. I feel lonely. I often do. Today, I woke up with a heavy heart.

I think, I am going to soak up the sun with a book in the garden today. But first, the washing needs to be done, the kitchen floor needs to be mopped, lunch has to be prepared soon too.

Take good care of your loved ones. Be nice and kind!
