Friday 5

Another week has passed and July is done. Time flies, as they say. It feels as if yesterday was March and now it’s already August. The weather is dreadful over here. We had a heatwave in early July and that’s all we had for summer. Isn’t talking about weather very mundane? Let’s dive into this week’s Friday 5, shall we?

Song

Suzanne Vega – left of center

This song was released in 1986. It was a B-side of the single Tom’s diner. If you have been following this blog for a while, you probably remember that I am never too fond of female voices, but Suzanne Vega (along with Annie Lennox and Kate Bush) or exceptions. I like that she takes a blink of an eye and makes a song about it. It’s a bit similar to my short stories, but of course she does it more masterfully than I ever could. Her back catalog is well worth exploring beyond the known songs.

I love looking at the sky and at clouds. It’s also a recurring theme in my poetry; the sky, clouds, the stars, rain, storms… Last Wednesday I was having a drink with my husband and behind him I saw this. I had to take a photo of the beautiful view. I had to edit it though, in the right corner was a lamppost that I removed digitally. Beauty hides everywhere, but most often in the unseen and in the quiet distractions we don’t allow us to notice

Music recap for July

It’s a bit funny how there’s no real overlap between the top tracks and top artists. But maybe that says something about how scattered my mind was this month…

Musing

I don’t have much to offer, but what I have I give freely. Care is not about asking for something in return, it is about presence.

How was your week? What was your top song, or which one would you share? Did you take the time to look at the clouds and the stars, to dance in the rain and to breathe?

Photos and stuff

I take many pictures. Often they seem a bit weird or abstract, but I like it that way, it’s the way I see the world.

A couple of weeks ago, I was approached via Instagram (Insta Link) asking if I was interested in creating a calendar with my pictures and words. It was a bit late for 2024 and to be honest, if I did a calendar, I would do it on my own. But a seed was planted.

I am wondering if I should put my weird photos in a book. Some of my pictures look like record covers. I like that a lot. I am not a photographer and my pictures don’t have any finesse. Just like my writing they aren’t overly polished. And yet… There is a mood palpable on my pictures.

It’s just a thought, a fantasy maybe. But I think I would enjoy my photos on glossy paper 🙂

What do you think about my photos? Pretentious? Nice? Awful?

Do you like taking pictures? What’s your preferred motive? Next to my kids, I seem to have a thing for roads… If you look at my IG (my IG link) you will see.

What’s the last artsy pic you took?

I made sensory bottles for work – these are macro images of the bubbles and glitter and colours…

Thank you for your patience with me and for popping by every once in a while.

Weather wasn’t too friendly today, but I had to go to Luxembourg City for a training/teaching. Every time I drive to the City, I am surprised about the beauty of Luxembourg’s capital. It was a rainy day indeed, and yet, I still found a moment and a bench to read a couple of pages before the rain came.

The old walls of the fort that was Luxembourg so many centuries ago are mixed with modern architecture… It never ceases to amaze me. It’s a clean city too. Friendly, multicultural, with a lot of history.

If you can, visit Luxembourg City. It’s beautiful here. 💜❤️💜❤️
