30 day song challenge 16/30

Day 16

A song that’s a classic favourite

Thin Lizzy – still in love with you

This song… Is it a classic? I am not sure because I am not sure how well known this one is. It must have been 2014 when my friend Jamie shared that song with me. He passed away in 2015 but left a big imprint in my life. One that I’m forever grateful. Anyway… He shared great music with me and I with him. It was just one of our things. The above song blew my mind…

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. How would you have replied to today’s challenge. And, erm… Did I do it right?

30 day song challenge 15/30

I had a training all day and almost forgot to post… But here we go

Day 15

A song that you like that’s a cover by another artist

The Howl & the Hum – blinding lights

Obviously, we all know this song. Personally, I think I’ve listened to this a lot more than to the original. I like it a lot.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen and how do you feel about this cover?

30 day song challenge 14/30

Day 14

A song you’d love to be played at your wedding

Anathema – dreaming light

I used to be a big fan of Anathema. They had a song for every situation and every emotion. Over the years and after their split, I listened less and less. But when I heard this song again randomly, I was reminded of the magic of this band and their powerful music. Some of you know that I collaborated with Dan Cavanagh (guitarist, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist of Anathema) on two of my poetry songs. It’s a privilege and never taken for granted. He’s a good man.

As for why this should be played at my wedding? Just listen to the lyrics. They are beautiful. You see, at my wedding, there was not a lot of music. Gasp. Yes, it’s true. We had a one man show, a friend of my dad’s and someone who is known in Luxembourg, but to be honest, it was sooooo disappointing… Not at all what I wanted. If I could redo our wedding, I would. And I would make it more unapologetically us. Music included. And yes, I would absolutely 100% marry the same guy again.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen? And what did you think about this one?

30 day song challenge 13/30

Day 13

A song you like from the 70s

Tim Buckley – song to the siren

From the moment I read today’s prompt, I wanted to share a Tim Buckley song, only to notice that the ones I really love are from the late 60s. The above song was from 1970. I am pretty sure there are more songs from the 70s that I like, but since I had an idea, I am kind of stuck on or with it. Maybe you know the feeling.

Feel free to list a couple of songs from the 70s that you like. I am sure it will give me an ahhh moment.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Same place tomorrow? We have a date!

30 day song challenge 12/30

Day 12

A song from your pre-teen years

Pearl Jam – Jeremy

I was born in 1983, “Jeremy” was released in 1991. I was just a kid back then. And yet… I grew up with a lot of great music being played around me. Affection or care were rare, but music was there in abundance.

Which song would you have chosen? It’s never too late to join in on the fun…

(scheduled post)

30 day song challenge 11/30

What’s new today? Actually, not much. I could complain about my health not being as it should be or about the rain or about this or that. But don’t we complain too much? I know I do. Sometimes I notice how much I am complaining and I shudder. It’s not a nice trait. I have much better qualities. I am sure you can think of some… I will not list them 🙂

Okay. Now that’s that. On with the show.

Day 11

A song that you never get tired of

Andrew Cushin – where’s my family gone?

A couple of years ago, this topped the list of my most listened to songs that year and I still haven’t tired of it. It grabbed me right away. It could be because of Noel Gallagher’s production which is written all over the song and makes it sound so familiar, but I like to think that the song has a lot of power. Andrew Cushin has a great voice in my opinion. It’s just one of those songs. But rest assured, there is a whole list of songs I never tire of, this was just the first that came to my mind.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun… Which song would you choose?

30 day song challenge 10/30

A very quick one today… I slept all of today after having been poorly yesterday. It was freezing all day long and then came the shivers that were so severe, it feels as if I have sore muscles from it. But once the shivers were gone, I started sweating and sleeping. As I mentioned yesterday I need to be able to work this week… I can’t afford to be sick.

But, music

Day 10

A song that makes you sad

James Harris – say something

This song makes me sad and sometimes it makes me cry too. Another one is this Yodelice – talk to me. There are many songs that make me sad, and many more that make me happy. What about you? Which song makes you sad?

It’s never too late to join in on the fun…

30 day song challenge 9/30

Not much blabbering from me today; once again I am sick. Coughing and all. I rarely get a cough, usually when I get head colds, my nose gets stuffed. But this time, it’s different I guess… I cannot afford to get sick now… My next two to three weeks are way too busy at work!

Anyway… Why are we here? Not to read about my health, but to hear the 9th song of the challenge.

Day 9

A song that makes you happy

Gilbert Montagné – on va s’aimer

Obviously, this is a French song. It’s from the year I was born (1983) and whenever I hear it, I turn up the volume, dance and sing along. It makes me happy and I think a big part of that is because it is also very cheesy. I am not a bad-ass. I am not strong, I am not special in any way and I am not a music snob. I like songs that make me react. I like music that makes me smile and I like music that makes me cry – and I am not ashamed to admit to that. You see, I used to be edgier when I was younger. Or I wanted to be. Now I am realizing that I am me and that I don’t owe an explanation to anyone why I am who I am. I only need to answer to myself. In theory. Because I still want to be and feel loved. I want to be and feel cared for once in a while too. As it is, I take care of the people I love and I think that makes them forget that I need a hug sometimes too. The above song is not a substitute for a hug, but it makes me feel good anyway.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Tell me, which songs or bands or artists make you happy?

Same place tomorrow? Do we have a date? Have a happy Saturday ❤️

30 day song challenge 8/30

It’s Friday, the sun is shining and the night has been short once again. Work was nice – as always; I really love my job and the kids and my co-workers too.

It’s international women’s day. I think here in my Luxembourgish bubble, gender equality is actually not that bad, but I also know that worldwide, there are many improvements that need to be made. Until every girl has a right to education and self-determination, until genital mutilation, child-marriage and all those inequalities are reversed, we need days like today – if only to remind people that not everything is hunky dory.

I’m stepping off my soapbox and get to what you are here for to see. (Okay… my English seems very bad today – I apologise. I can’t seem to find the right words or the right way to put my sentences.) Let there be music!!

Day 8

A song you like with a food in the title

Daisy Jones & the six – look at us now (honeycomb)

This song is from a show called Daisy Jones & the Six. I liked it a lot and the music this imaginary band created spoke to me. Or easier said, I liked the show and the music. Apparently, the band is loosely based on Fleetwood Mac, but I don’t know. I don’t know enough about the band to judge this. The above song was in my end of year list of my listened songs in 2023, and I have to say that the entire soundtrack of this show is brilliant. Give it a try, if you like this song and a show that is more on the dramatic side, then this is absolutely for you.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Challenges like this are sometimes boring and sometimes exciting. At the very least, you might find new songs you like. Which song would you have chosen today?

30 day song challenge 6/30

It’s a bit of a weird time here… I haven’t been sleeping much and last night, I really felt that. I was overwhelmed in a negative way. I was so tired and exhausted… It wasn’t nice. This morning though… I was awake after 4 hours of deep sleep and got ready for work. I even think I did not look all that bad… but maybe I was too tired to judge. Hehe, I took a selfie anyway, and because I am in need of some reassurance and love, I posted it on IG.

But now, let’s get on with why we are here: music

Day 6

A song that makes you want to dance

Milky Chance – living in a haze

This is a song that always gets me moving. Many more songs have the same ability, but this got me dancing through the kitchen an hour ago… So, I guess for me, this was the easiest or most obvious choice today.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Notice how I even managed to write “too” correctly? I got so angry with myself when I got it wrong yesterday… urgh! I know those things and I still get them wrong and worst of all, I don’t see it when I am writing…

Bon bref… which songs would you choose? What makes you dance?

Saturday Song

Keep Shelly in Athens – we want more

Keep Shelly in Athens is a Greek duo formed in 2010 and the above song can be found on the 2017 release Philokalia.

Enjoy… I know I do. 🙂

Thursday Song

Thirsty Seconds to Mars – echelon

This song was on the 2002 debut album of this American band. The album was self-titled. Great debut, I must say. By the way, the singer and main songwriter is actor Jared Leto.

Wednesday Song

Weikie – raise our sunken ship

From the album with the same name (2012).

Weikie is a multi-instrumentalist, a creative mind and an extraordinary person. He is very clever, funny and gives great hugs, and great advice too. A special one who makes a special kind of music.

💜❤️🖤💚💙🤍💛🧡🤎

A moment can’t outdo the ever. Adam Weikert (Weikie)

Tuesday Song

Michael Patrick Kelly – blurry eyes

From the album B.O.A.T.S. (2021)

This song grabbed me right unexpectedly in the feels. Beautiful lyrics.

Michael Patrick Kelly is quite known in Europe as part of the Kelly Family; back when he made music with his siblings, he used to be known as Paddy. When I was a teenage girl, most girls where in love with him. The entire celebrity thing became too much for the young man and he joined a monastery. But he comes from a musical family, it runs in his blood.

After several years he came back using his full name and becoming a successful solo artist.

Anyway… Beautiful song.

💙🤍💛🧡🤎🖤💚❤️💜

Back to work today, after 11 days at home. I am torn about it. Worried, actually.
