Black clothes and rainbow shoes

I wear black. Almost always. Lately, there are some shades of green or purple added to my clothes, and still, they remain mainly black. I like it that way. But my shoes… They are colourful. Like many women, I own many shoes. Lots with heels that I rarely wear. Boots, sandals. And my beloved Converse. I didn’t mean to have a collection of them, but over the years they found a home at my feet. 4 of the pairs in the photo are unique and customised with rainbow soles.

I put a similar photo in my IG stories (@micqu_1), but I adjusted the arrangement, a bit for this one. Better aesthetics, eh.

During the school year, we talked about colours and emotions. We used the Colour Monster (a well-known children’s book) for that. Every emotion has a colour. And for every emotion/colour we discussed that week at school, I wore the appropriate pair of Converse. At first it was meant to be a joke between me and my colleague, but the kids picked up on it quickly, even without any of us mentioning it. It was great fun. It was subtle, but it spoke volumes.

A bit like me. I like subtle things but I like making a statement too. I like blending in (which I rarely do though) and standing out. I am not loud, but I am present in my most genuine and authentic way. Not some days, but always. Every day.

As you’ve noticed, my daily posting made room for a weekly post. My daily poetry turned into weekly randomness. It is how I am right now. There is no poetry at the moment (it could change today or tomorrow or in a week…) and that is completely okay. But I am not gone. I am still here. I am still Chaotic and serene. I am reading and listening to lots of awesome music. I am parenting my teenagers (or they me) and I am working towards summer holidays (in 3 weeks). My mental health is good and stable and physically, apart from the allergies still kicking my behind, I am well. My absence here is presence too.

Lots of love from me to you. I am enjoying this heatwave a lot this year. How are you? What have you been up to?

  1. We’re now fully into our blazing hot summer regime here in greater Palm Springs, and I hate it. Our daily highs over the past week have been 117, 117, 115, 114, 111, 108. (that’s roughly 42-47 Celsius). It’s cooler today, only around 100. Ugh.
