Happy Blog Anniversary

Twelve years. That’s how long Reflections of an Unquiet Mind has existed. It’s been a long journey—one filled with highs and lows, moments of quiet creativity, and periods of uncertainty. This little blog has grown alongside me, evolving as I have, becoming a mirror of sorts.

I never imagined, back in 2012, that this space would still be here today. It started as a little outlet—a place for me to share music and words, a piece of myself I wanted to leave behind. Subconsciously, maybe I hoped a part of me would survive through the blog, even if I didn’t. Over the years, it became so much more—a reflection of who I was, who I am, and who I am becoming.

This year, the blog had 4,093 views from 1,755 visitors, accounting for roughly 7% of all-time traffic. While it’s a 40% increase compared to 2023, it doesn’t quite reach the peaks of 2020 and 2021, when views exceeded 5,000 annually. Still, it’s steady growth, and that’s something to be proud of.

A look at the blog’s growth over 12 years.

Here’s where readers came from in 2024:

1. United States
2. United Kingdom
3. Netherlands
4. Luxembourg
5. Guatemala
6. India

Seeing Luxembourg in the top countries always makes me smile. It’s a reminder of home—a connection to where I come from, even as the blog reaches readers across the world.

These were the top six posts of 2024:

1. Home Page / Archives
2. The Busker
3. Too Gifted to Perish
4. About Me
5. Books
6. Weather Systems – Ocean Without Shore

Top-performing posts that connected with readers in 2024.

It’s clear that readers continue to enjoy a mix of creative writing and personal reflections. Stories like The Busker and Too Gifted to Perish found their audience alongside evergreen pages like About Me and Books.

But once again, poetry—the heart of this blog—is missing from the top six. Why do you think that is? Are there particular themes or styles of poetry you’d love to see more of? Your feedback means so much, and it helps shape what I create.

This blog has come a long way since its quiet beginnings in 2012. What started as an experiment—a way to share music and thoughts—has become a part of my identity.

Over the years, there have been moments of doubt. Some years, inspiration felt elusive, and I questioned whether my words were reaching anyone at all. Other times, life simply got in the way, making it hard to maintain consistency. But each time, I returned to this blog—not because I had to, but because it still mattered to me.

In a digital world where blogs often come and go, maintaining this space for twelve years feels like an achievement in itself.

Your messages, comments, and quiet presence here have often been the nudge I needed to keep going.

There are days when I wonder if this blog still matters. But then I remind myself—it matters to me. It’s my corner of the world, a place where I can be honest, vulnerable, and unpolished.

How it started, how it is going

So, thank you. To everyone who’s visited, commented, or shared a moment with me here—thank you. You’ve made this journey worth it.

Every word, no matter how small, has the power to connect. Thank you for being part of this journey—here’s to another year of creativity, connection, and quiet reflection.

Take care of yourselves, my friends.

  1. Happy Anniversary to your wonderful blog, Cathy. 12 years is quite a feat, as I’ve seen many a blogger call it quits after only a few years. Like you, I too have days where I wonder whether my blog still matters, but I guess as long as even a few make the effort to read my posts, it’s worth it.

As far as your posts about poetry not ranking among your most popular, I can only say that for myself, I prefer reading your posts about yourself, music or your short stories, though I always try to read your poetry and ‘like’ those posts.

    1. Aw, thank you very much for your kind words and for always finding the time to comment. Some days, it was one of your likes or comments that made me go on. Also, thank you for liking the poetry even though I know it is not really your cup of tea ❤️❤️
