Don’t save me

She looked at him with pleading eyes “don’t save me” she said and meant it too. She was not in danger and didn’t need any help. Her mind was fragile, that was true. And there had been a time when surrender felt so very appealing. But she had persisted and fought on. No, she did not need saving. Comfort, however, that was something she gladly accepted. Care and honest love too. But no saving. Many people got angry when she declared that she was okay and that they needn’t worry. They felt rejected and useless. And she understood their reasons. But she was stubborn and maybe a but proud too. She didn’t need anyone to save her or her soul. She didn’t need to be fixed either. She was able to do it on her own. He shook his head as if she had defeated him in some way. She looked at him, feeling lost. For a moment she thought about giving in and pretending to be weaker than she was, then she decided to be true to herself. She offered him a smile and a tentative touch on the cheek before pulling him into a hug. Hugs, that much she knew, were meaningful, powerful. Forgotten were was whatever had happened mere moments ago.
