30 day song challenge 30/30

Day 30

The last one. I am up early. I am always up early, but today I could have slept in. During the week, I get up at 5am. I was coughing myself awake again and I still have trouble breathing (and hearing) because of my congested nose.

Anyway…

A song that reminds you of yourself

There is not that one song that reminds me of me. I think others could find more suitable answers for this. And that’s why I ask you: is there a song that reminds you of me? Share your answers in the comments.

For me, this challenge (and the daily posts) end here. But, it’s never too late to join in on the fun. Or, you can, of course, share another daily challenge with me.

Me, I am going to take the next two weeks and relax and get healthy again. There’s a lot planned though, from trips to administrations to dentist and doctor’s appointments and dinners with lovely people… But first, just relaxing. Enjoy your weekend. Don’t forget me. ❤️

30 day song challenge 29/30

Day 30

A song you remember from your childhood

Chris Rea – auberge

My mom was a big Chris Rea fan when I was a kid. I don’t know if she still listens to music. I haven’t seen her since my cousin’s wedding last year and I have absolutely no desire to see her or speak with her. And although I sound like an evil person, I made my peace with the situation. Anyway… I heard a lot of Chris Rea when I grew up (and Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and more). I did not take much positivity from my childhood, but music was always there in abundance.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which is your song of choice?

30 day song challenge 28/30

Day 28

A song by an artist whose voice you love

Paolo Nutini – Iron Sky

I already shared songs by other artists whose voice I love, notably Sivert Høyem. I prefer male voices (as you probably noticed – I don’t often share songs by female artists). Jack Savoretti has a great voice too, or Florent Pagny. There are many more worth mentioning for sure. Female singers I like are Annie Lennox or Skin or Sarah Bettens of K’s Choice.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen today?

30 day song challenge 27/30

Day 27

A song that breaks your heart

The Swell Season – leave

Leaving you with just this song… Nothing to add ❤️

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song breaks your heart?

30 day music challenge 26/30

Still almost deaf on my right ear due to an infection, but doing my best to hear everyone and everything… Let me tell you, it’s not going too well. 🧓

Day 26

A song that makes you want to fall in love

Depeche Mode – somebody

Yeah… I want this and sometimes I even have it ❤️

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have picked today? (Sorry, not much blabbering because my ear hurts and I am coughing too much to focus for long periods of time.  3 more days at work and then 2 weeks off due to spring holidays)

30 day song challenge 25/30

Day 25

It’s a late one today because I was busy and did not schedule the post.  For work, I have many trainings at Uni – just like today.

A song you like by an artist no longer living

Jeff Buckley – everybody here wants you

Oh come on?! Really?! It’s not as if I posted a Tim Buckley song before and can’t or won’t do it again. That’s why: Jeff Buckley – his song. With one of the sexiest songs I know. There’s just something about it. I could also have gone for Prince’s When Doves Cry Definitely my favourite Prince song. I could have chosen something by David Bowie or John Lennon or or …. Too many to choose from.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. What’s your song today?

30 day song challenge 23/30

Day 23

The challenge is slowly coming to an end. Just a couple more songs to go. Today:

A song you think everyone should listen to

Dream Theater – scene eight: the spirit carries on

I first came in touch with the music of Dream Theater when I was part of a band more than 20 years ago. Our guitarist was a big fan and copied this album for me: Metropolis pt2: scenes from a memory. And I listened to it a lot. It’s a concept album that tells a story. The above song is probably one of the most accessible songs and it is also a bit spiritual lyric wise. But it’s good. And more people should hear it.

I could have chosen many other songs too, as with every part of the challenge, choosing is difficult, but choices have to be made.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song do you think everyone should listen to?

30 day song challenge 22/30

Day 22

A song that moves you forward

Paul Kalkbrenner – Sky and sand

Yeah, this one makes me move. I love it.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song moves you forward?

30 day song challenge 21/30

Day 21

A song you like with a person’s name in the title

The Cult – Edie (ciao Baby)

Ah, I really like this band and Edie is indeed one of my favourites of them. It’s about actress Edie Sedgwick and was featured on the 1989 album Sonic Temple.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen? I know there are many greats out there.

30 day song challenge 20/30

Day 20

A song that has many meanings for you

Sivert Høyem – aim for the heart

This is a bit of a hard one because there are so many songs with meaning that I already shared. I chose one that I liked from the moment I first heard it. Now, isn’t that something I said many times before?

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen today?

30 day song challenge 19/30

Day 19

A song that makes you think about life

Mark Kozelek and Jimmy Lavalle – somehow the wonder of life prevails

A somewhat sad song that tells several stories. I remember the first time I heard the song, I was so affected that I had to listen again. It’s one of those where I cry when I am in a mood. Beautiful though. Very much so.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen? There are more on my mind, but maybe they are for another time.

30 day song challenge 16/30

Day 16

A song that’s a classic favourite

Thin Lizzy – still in love with you

This song… Is it a classic? I am not sure because I am not sure how well known this one is. It must have been 2014 when my friend Jamie shared that song with me. He passed away in 2015 but left a big imprint in my life. One that I’m forever grateful. Anyway… He shared great music with me and I with him. It was just one of our things. The above song blew my mind…

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. How would you have replied to today’s challenge. And, erm… Did I do it right?

30 day song challenge 15/30

I had a training all day and almost forgot to post… But here we go

Day 15

A song that you like that’s a cover by another artist

The Howl & the Hum – blinding lights

Obviously, we all know this song. Personally, I think I’ve listened to this a lot more than to the original. I like it a lot.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen and how do you feel about this cover?

30 day song challenge 14/30

Day 14

A song you’d love to be played at your wedding

Anathema – dreaming light

I used to be a big fan of Anathema. They had a song for every situation and every emotion. Over the years and after their split, I listened less and less. But when I heard this song again randomly, I was reminded of the magic of this band and their powerful music. Some of you know that I collaborated with Dan Cavanagh (guitarist, songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist of Anathema) on two of my poetry songs. It’s a privilege and never taken for granted. He’s a good man.

As for why this should be played at my wedding? Just listen to the lyrics. They are beautiful. You see, at my wedding, there was not a lot of music. Gasp. Yes, it’s true. We had a one man show, a friend of my dad’s and someone who is known in Luxembourg, but to be honest, it was sooooo disappointing… Not at all what I wanted. If I could redo our wedding, I would. And I would make it more unapologetically us. Music included. And yes, I would absolutely 100% marry the same guy again.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Which song would you have chosen? And what did you think about this one?

30 day song challenge 13/30

Day 13

A song you like from the 70s

Tim Buckley – song to the siren

From the moment I read today’s prompt, I wanted to share a Tim Buckley song, only to notice that the ones I really love are from the late 60s. The above song was from 1970. I am pretty sure there are more songs from the 70s that I like, but since I had an idea, I am kind of stuck on or with it. Maybe you know the feeling.

Feel free to list a couple of songs from the 70s that you like. I am sure it will give me an ahhh moment.

It’s never too late to join in on the fun. Same place tomorrow? We have a date!
